    Something is failing BUT WHAT?

Hi chaps just fitted my new fuel pump complete with new banjos, banjo bolts and washers. The ,out, side of the pump is leaking like a sieve but replacement banjos are being sent to me

However I started the car anyway and she ran like a dog- it felt like 4 cylinders most of the time- wouldn't idle at all. The fuel filter was half full, checked all HT leads took off dizzy cap and all seems well. Checked for a spark and it seemed really weak.

I then checked all the leads again still fine tryed to start again and she is now running beautifully.

    Any ideas??????????????????????

Are your HT leads ok? there could be an internal break somewhere, perhaps in the lead from the Dizzy to the Coil (King lead I think it is called). Or the Coil itself. Don't know how you would test that though.

They are all called that when they cause trouble.

So what are they called normally?

Hi Plugs and all leads are nearly new. I also have luminition fitted so no points to worry about,

The only thing I havn't replaced is the coil- what would be the simptoms of that failing?

she is running beautifully now but when she was 'playing up' she was really slow to rev and felt like a lawnmower!

            Darren.

Sounds very much like a problem i've had and come across a few times. It sounds as if one of the carb pistons is sticking, if it happens again just unscrew the dampers on top of the carb and refit, if that cures it you will need to remove carbtop and piston and give them a good clean.

Weak spark could be a bad connection on the power leads on coil, not sure ifa ballast resistor problem would give weak spark. I had a problem in France a few weeks ago when the engine got hot and the coil was overheating, fitted a new coil and it ran for for about 15ml and had same problem, weak spark again, fitted another coil and had no problems since.

Sounds like you dislodged some crap in the fuel line. Once you rev the engine theres every chance that it cleared itself and now all is well again.

                      I love happy endings :P:P

I prefer to find the problem personally. The self healed problem has a habit of being the returning problem in my experience, usually at a bad time. Being a veteran of two Triumphs (admittedly not that long with the second...) I had a problem with the king inertia switch on both of them and would definitely check that.
