Warning: Don't ever buy a Peugeot

    Specifically an 807.

Need a new exhaust system. How much? Ahem, £1,951 + fitting from a main dealer. Auto factors? £1,400. Why? Because you can only get the parts from Peugeot main dealers.

    Legalised theft.

    You've been warned!

I bet someone could rustle up a bit of pipe to join the broken bits together or ist it (God forbid) the cat that's gone?

    Cheers

Richard; Try `Longlife Exhausts` they make stainless systems to fit any vehicle. Have always got them for my cars and I have found them to be cheaper than the original mild steel items and come with a lifetime guarantee. Hope this helps. Andy.

Thanks guys. Problem is when the 807 rolls out of the factory the exhaust is one single system. The replacement comes as separate components, but of course you have to buy all the components. So whilst its the middle box and the flexi pipe to the cat that have gone, I have to buy the entire system. You can buy some parts from auto factors, but not the front pipe and the cat. They are exclusively available from Peugeot and cost £600+ and £800+ respectively. Peugeot have thought of everything.

Andy - I'll try Longlife Exhausts. Thanks for the tip...

I have just bought a Peugeot 5008, but at least I have 2 years to worry about anything going wrong. However, I assume they would wriggle out of any claim about exhausts.

I'm sure you can get yours fixed by the specialists as mentioned. I made a silencer for a Cortina GT many moons ago, so if I could do that with no welding skill at all, the fabrication of replacement bits for your's should pose no problem for those guys.

Bloody hell, quelle rip off. I would have thought this would give rise to a thriving 2nd hand market. Any specialist breakers out there?

                    Oh my goodness,

I had a similar issue with Nissan. They wanted £380 plus VAT for a Front break caliper.

I found a refurb one for £85. The problem is that until enough reach the refurb market you can only get them from Nissan.

Good luck with the Exhaust. I am sure someone can sort you out cheaper than the French. May be they are getting their own back for Agincourt!!!!!! :-)

Definitely investigate a custom stainless system. I was chatting to Mike (who restored the Stag engined Ferguson equipped 2.5 estate) and he had a custom system including tubular manifolds (and as a 4x4 Stag owner I know how complicated this would have been to route) made for £1800. Even if your stainless system doesn't cost less than the full Pug system - you'll never have to replace it again - and it would be a great selling feature when that time comes.

Let us know the outcome - but I'm willing to bet that the stainless exhaust makers are already on the case.

                        This help?

Did a search on the bay for Peugeot 807 exhaust system - then narrowed down by cost (to get rid of everything below a few hundred quid which was obviously going to be irrelevant)

                              Modern cars eh...
Friend at work lent his Audi A4 diesel to his wife today to take a trip to Donnington, she never made it as the cambelt broke.
Now if you read about Audi's and cambelts it is usually a new engine!

He'd use a lighter too but the car is now being bought back by the AA having just had to upgrade to get the bring it home service for £200+

He is not a happy chappy
