Oil draining from carb pots/ tops

    Hello!

Had to put my gearbox issue on hold, working to many hours again! and now crappy weather!

i filled the carbs up with oil the other day but the oil seems to have drained out of one of them.... my question is... where is this oil going? is it going to cause an issue? and is it an easy fix?

Hi Ben, fairly straightforward, the oil is running past a hardened O ring into the jet, it does no harm, but you do need the damping effect of the oil. Unscrew the damper, take the top off the carb, lift out the air valve (piston), unscrew the needle as far as it will go, now remove the grub screw from the side and pull out the needle, if this needs force, you may bend it, so a new one will be needed. now, tip the piston upside down, and with a soft drift, drive the jet holder along the tube till it drops out in your hand with it's sprag washer, you'll now see the tiny offending O ring, replace it, and the sprag, with new. It's best you do both carbs as the other is likely to be in a similar state. Let us know how you get on. Martin.
