Broken Spring in Door Handle

This is one I haven't experienced before. Opened the driver's door to get out and heard a loud crack. The spring in the inner door handle has broken, leaving the lever flapping around.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is the spring replaceable, or am I looking at a replacement inner handle? It still works, so I don't want to strip things down until I have either a replacement spring or handle ready to fit. It is a Mk1 type handle.

i think i have a broken handle, only the leaver broke but its mk2, maybe you could rob the spring

Does anyone know if the Mk1 and Mk2 handles use the same springs?

No but I'll give you £100 for the faulty handle provided its attached to the car

Dave, just swapped mk1 doors for mk2 The springs are identical. Easy job. Just a couple of bolts on the inside of the door skin to remove and wiggle out the handle. It was the first time i'd done it, dead easy. I used the mk2 handles . The mk 1 handles are surplus as i disposed of the rotten doors. You're welcome to them, they are complete except one of the handles is broken. The chrome is pretty good. They are dead easy to strip, just pull a long pin out, they fall apart. They were always gonna be free to a good home. Pm me your address i'll send them on. cheers, jools.
