Having re-built my engine and put the box back I annoyingly still have a tiny leak which I think must be caused by this blocked hole I also didn't know existed before - dammit! I replaced the selector shaft seals and all the others but still there is a very small loss of fluid which I think may be caused by an excess of pressure.
What I am wondering is if it would be possible/sensible to modify the filler plug so that it is drilled through the centre and has a very small tube sealed into it which is bent so as to vent at the very highest part of the box (or maybe a slightly bigger tube but with a very small say 2mm hole at the top. This way it would be easy to unblock the breather via the small 'door' cut into the LH tunnel.
I've read that some early TR's had a filler tube which doubled up as a breather pipe (bit like on an auto) so reckon on it being a not too difficult plan;
Anyone got any thoughts on this?
Cheers,
