refurb carbs

Car failed MOT on C02 Exhaust and decided to expense a refurb set of carbs from Paddocks, (lovely things that everyone at work stroked lovingly - man thing i guess).

before i fitted the new carbs the car was running a little lumpy on cold but fine when warm , however, it will not start at all now. i know the cards will need setting up but all the text says get your car running and then adjust.

My question and request for help is what could be the causes, i've changed the HT leads and plugs, cheched for a spark and the firing order etc but no good. Any tips ...... please.

Silly question, but have disturbed the coil connections while changing the carbs? If so,, have you reconnected correctly?

i've checked the wiring and all seems fine. there is a spark to the plugs on both side, but even so i'll change out the coil to be sure.



Do you think it's timing related and not the carbs?

I fitted a new set of carbs some time ago and the car Would not start the problem was no oil in the pots

[align=left]If you took the Carb Housing off did you remember to put back the fibre washer
in the proper place?

Is the Carb Housing tight on the Inlet Manifold or loose that would suggest an air leak,
and too much air getting into the mix.

there is oil in the pots, so i guess that not it. however when i removed the old set of carbs there was a bead of sealant around the old housing which i removed and repalced with a new seal. maybe i should have reseated it with a sealant beed. i'll try that today.



Any other possible causes whilst i've got it all in bits again?

out of interest just fitted old carbs and engine fired into life first time. must be the settings on the refurb carbs. any ideas on how to set up or how difficult?

I think I'd have a word with Paddocks before fiddling with them. From your experiment, there is clearly something not right with the new carbs (even if it is only adjustments) - see what they say before you start dismantling.

there should be an o ring betweeb the carb pedasat and the carb, also the pedastal nut needs to be tourqued right, its in the rom.

if you have the old carbs still pout them back on if it fires up you know where to start.

panic over and tea on the table!



Turned out to be the tube assembly inside the top of carbs that opens to let more air in, attached to the needle and the diamphram, had 'stuck' with a slight amount of surface rust. Removed, cleaned,light oiling,refitted,fitted to car and zroom, started first time.

dont forget to line the carb body/lid lugs up it helps the needles up and down.(if you havn;t)
