    Those silicone cam cover gaskets

Following the initial euphoria and group buy, how has everyone got on with those silicone gaskets?

I bought some direct and have now got my Cam Covers back from powder-coating. Was wondering whether to try cork first, or are those silicone ones everything they purport to be with respect to leaks and dribbles?

Mine are still in the box they came in, Drew. I've not had a reason to remove the cam covers since the last time I fitted cork gaskets...............

Drew, I couldn't get mine to seal no matter what, threw them in the bin! For me they were a vastly over priced waste of time, I have never had an issue with cork gaskets so I will stay with those

fitted mine and they are perfect - no drips or leaks and the best thing is they do not get impregnated and then just ooze oil out at the rear of the cam covers

Biggest problem I have with the cork ones is that they are fractionally too long to fit the cover and are a real PITA to glue into place before fitting.

I have fitted one silicon gasket so far and it couldn't make up for the warp in the cover, I tried it because I had also failed miserably with cork gaskets.

I had to build a ridge with instant gasket that was left to go off partially before fitting the silicon one again, that cured it but would have worked with cork if I could have stopped the damn thing from popping out of the cover!

Difficult to vote on the categories above, but on balance somewhere between the top two

I haven't purchased a set of silicone gaskets, hoping they would be fantastic, alas it appears not generally.
Over the years I have tried every combination of grease/wellseal ect but the only solution for me has been silicone sealant on both sides of cork gaskets.

Thats just how I fixed my cork ones after the recent re-build, copper silicone in the cover first, set the gasket in and allow it to set then with just the weight of the rocker laid flat on a piece of flat wood, let that go off for about 30 mins then apply a bead to the other face, carefully rest that on the head and screw down evenly but not tight for an hour - after an hour tighten all down properly and evenly working diagonally across the bolts.
First time in 19 years I have no leaks at all from the rockers - brilliant!
I've never tried pure silicone gaskets but cork works well with good preparation and care in bolting down.

                Cheers
                Mike

Bought a set after trying to seal up the constant leak. Was very careful on fitting and to be fair....rubbish!! they leaked more than the cork ones. Save yourself the money, i took mine off yet again and put a new set of cork ones. No more leaks (not from there anyhow) Cork are much better in my opinion

I have had silicone fitted for some time and found them to be totally oil leak proof ,no issues at all but I did pay particular attention to ensuring the covers were true first and not distorted from previous over tightening and then ensured they were fitted and tightened correctly. if I could make one change it would be to make them marginally wider for peace of mind.
