Ok I've got an update. Thanks to you guys I found the previous owner had siliconed the carbs to the manifold and the advance retard vacum pipe was cracked Grr. Anyhow new O ring now in place, and shiny new vacum tube, adjusted bits and pieces and is she is much better and ticking over at about 750 rpm goes ok ish when I give her some beans but still is reluctant in traffic also I can't seem to balance the two carbs no matter what I do and when she is ticking over If I manually lift the slide it keeps running on the right and cuts out when I lift the left. Has anyone got any ideas?

hi Dan, sorry just read your other post, in regard to the mixture i would wind them back then out 3 full turns and try that, it sounds like your mixture is out a lot, weak on one and rich on the other, i had a lag on mine pulling away, it was the diaphrams, they looked fine but was cheap copy's, ordered 2 more from Burlin she nows runs like a dream

Hi Dan,
my diaphragms looked fine too, no splits or anything, but when i got the new ones from Burlin i could feel the difference, the old ones only lasted 5 or 6 thousand miles, i'm no expert on the carbs, Alan at the guage shop is, he rebuilds them, but is away on holiday the moment
hope you get it sorted mate

Thanks for the offer Julian but I actually think I've done it. It's a wonder it ran at at all. The PO had put one of the slides in the wrong way round and had pinched the diaphragm when he put it all together luckily it's ok and not split. After another strip down and clean up i disconnected the throttle linkages and started again and balanced them sticking a piece of hose pipe in one ear and the other end into the carbs throat. A tip from the forum. Then adjusted the tick over when warmed up, she goes well now i thinks she runs a bit cooler too or am i imagining that? but I think she running a bit lean because when I push the slides up with my finger she stalls. I have a mixture tool on order but would love to borrow the colour tune to get her just right.

Hi Dan,
Well done
You're welcome to borrow the Colourtune and I've got a very simple basic carb balance that you're welcome to borrow as well (http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Produc...FWLHtAodhXMA7w) (and my mixture adjusting tool if yours doesn't arrive soon)
Mind you, I need to get them back before too long cos I need to get round to using them myself on my car
Are you around this week ? Shall I come down to you with them, or do you want to come up this way (I'm only about 5 miles from the Bath & West showground where we met last), or meet somewhere ?
Cheers
Julian

Alan, yes it's a great feeling when you do it yourself like someone said earlier its not rocket science but if you don't understand how things come apart and go back together it is daunting until you start.
Julian, yes I'd love to meet up during the week one evening ill check my work diary and text you where do you suggest shall we meet half way?
