    Oil pressure gauge fitting

    'Morning all,

Does anybody out there know of a 'quick & easy' way to fit an oil pressure gauge to a '75 Stag Auto as the existing oil pressure switch would appear to be virtually inaccessible to a 'normal' spanner. Also what route would you suggest for the routing of the plastic feed pipe. I intend to put the oil pressure gauge in place on the existing (non working!) clock. I have previously fitted gauges to a many other cars where access was feely available.

    Cheers,

    Peter

hi Peter .i am afraid quick and easy does not exist on this job !. it is awkward and fiddly but is possible, very small turns with a spanner.as for the pipe it just goes through the bulkhead , there should be some spare holes there.Len

      ahem

Use a very long screwdriver and a hammer to knock the head off the oil pressure sender, 2 gentle taps and it should be off. then use a suitable socket and ratchet to remove the remains of the oil pressure sender.

        Hi Len,

It was the answer I expected but NOT the one I wanted! I think that I may have to remove the gearbox oil filler tube (which I didn't want to do) first.

        Thanks again,

        Peter

          Hi Richard,

'Ahem indeed. Thanks for the 'non scientific' tip! I'll give it a go and if it doesn't work, you will hearing from my Solicitors, Messrs Old, Bull and Bush.

          Watch this space!

          Cheers,

          Peter

hi. yes even a bigger nuisance on an automatic, I wouldn't be inclined to knock the top off the oil pressure switch though, that could go seriously wrong.Len

Be VERY careful with the top of the oil transfer housing. It is not too strong and the threaded section can crack. Especially when tightening as it is a tapered thread.

Have you tried a 'crowsfoot' socket to get the switch out?

ive done this, very small turns of the spanner and a bit of time is all you need

I used one of these. It's come in very useful in several places (car and house) since I bought it.

                  Cheers

I can't quite see where the batteries go?

                      Hi,

Thanks for the tip. but I think that the gearbox oil filler tube is going to be in the way. I thought that the switch was screwed directly into the block?

                      Cheers,

                      Peter

                        Hi Andy,

What time will you be over? Getting the spanner on is the problem as the gearbox oil filler tube is in the way so I may have to remove it which means draining the gearbox. What fun!

                        Cheers,

                        Peter

                          Hi Julian,

I bought one of these many years ago as a 'basin spanner' and it was worse than useless for undoing tap nuts! It is now residing quietly in my plumbing tools so I will dig it out and have ago.

                          Thanks again,

                          Pete

I managed to do mine without removing the tube,
