She's moist (well its got your attention!)

    Hi,

Im a new member with a 74 stag, thanks to this forum I have eliminated shudders, knocks, bits falling off and odd smoke coming from most areas of the car in the last 9 months! Most recent being a prop shaft & quill replacement...what a difference, shudder gone!

I have one question which i haven't found the answer to on this forum:

My drivers side footwell is wet, no holes in the floor and no rain for it to be a hood leak. Im working on the basis its a heater unit leak. Im planning on starting with the hoses and connections behind the dash to begin, but i'm guessing this is a common fault, is there anything else I should be thinking of changing at the same time, before I begin the parts shopping?

    Thanks.
    Dom

      Welcome to the Forum.
Are you losing coolant? if it's a coolant leak there's often some odour associated. Heater valve would seem the most likely cause of a coolant leak into the footwell. I guess taking out the carpet drying out the footwell then a drive in the rain might help check if it's something other than coolant.

No rain?, that'll be a lot of washer use I would have thought???

Have you done the taste test, doesn't anti freeze have a sweet taste?

            Welcome by the way Dom

Never tried it, but I imagine you could bypass the heater completely just by disconnecting the hoses going into it at the bulkhead and either joining them together or blanking them off.

My Stag's heater was blanked off in this fashion which led me to believe the heater matrix was faulty. I wasn't a SOC member at the time, so just took the car apart as per ROM and replaced the whole heater matrix and valve with new.
The matrix turned out to be leak-free so it was probably just the valve seal that needed replacing!!! Doh!
