Nice one Keith. That's the thing about our cars, you end up learning lot's of new skills. Just finished recon-ing my carbs for the first time ever, bloody satisfying -- leak cured, running great. Also, One of the first tools i bought was a large tap and die set. Used it several times already to make Unf bolts out of metric ones. Again, bloody satisfying. Welding course next? lol. cheers, jools.

The main problem was not the job itself, but sourcing all the right tools. The cheapo kits off the 'bay do not contain a bottom or plug tap and the thread inserts come in different lengths. I ended up buying bits from 3 different places, then having spent ages researching what to buy and from where, you have to wait for the post to arrive..............aarghhhhh, very frustrating. When you have all the right kit, the job takes minutes!
Quiz time: Anyone spot my minor mod????

I got my Helicoil kit from Chronos engineering. Good quality and everything there for a reasonable price.
It's a great feeling when a Helicoil goes in nicely and an even better feeling when you do the bolt or stud up

Re Chronos, I got my kit from there too, but the tap was an intermediate (with large pointy spike on end which did not help), fine for through holes, but not for the hub studs. It would only have given me about 5 or 6 full threads in the blind hole. I could have ground the spike off which would have helped, but spotted a genuine Helicoil plug tap on ebay, so bought that. The thread inserts in the Chronos kit looked a little short on length, so got some that gave me a thread for most of the full depth in the blind hole, around 15mm.
Cheers
