If you own a Stag I would say you have to have a sense of humour, so questions like that just don't bother me as I think it's nice that they take an interest! Mines got a RV8 in it of course, so I have the indignity of admitting to the smug purists at shows that, no my car doesn't have an original engine so you can see that it cuts both ways. The worst ones are the know alls who refuse to believe what you tell them, and stick to their guns "I remember that Triumph DID fit the 2.5PI engine and the V8 came later"......"ahh now you say that, I think you are right mate" is my reply.

Had a guy say just that last night, he was convinced that his dads Stag which was bought new was fitted with the 2.5 fuel injected engine and couldnt get his head round that mine had the original engine fitted and it was a 3Ltr V8.
Few years ago a mate of mine swopped his Stag for a 911 Targa (at double the price). It pulled oil fumes into the cab with the roof off and only ran on 4 cylinders for the first 20 miles from cold. It did need an engine rebuild but at 3K+ just to have the top end done I thought then that I would stick to my Stag. Got into my Stag following a run out in the porker and thought what a nice car the Stag was compared to the 911. My mate now runs a Z3 as his toy as the porker just became a money pit.
