    tonneau cover centre bracket

hi. can anyone post a picture of the correct position of the bracket underneath the centre of the tonneau cover. Its the one that pushes the softop down when closing the tonneau lid. Thanks in advance. Len

I've removed mine - it had worn through the material on my old hood

When Chris (Vmad) fitted my new hood, he suggested removing it and I'm glad I have done - absolutely no downsides that I can see.

    Cheers

hi Julian. Yes I have removed mine as it was wearing the hood material away, but I think the catch is going to do the same thing ! . The catch seems very close , maybe I will look again,.Thanks. Len

The bracket has to be bent down into place to be effective, but I put a cloth between the hood and the bracket that works well.

          Len,

This is how the bracket is fitted on mine, I'm assured by Brian Turner that this is the correct way round as apparently many have been re-fitted upside down following a resto. Before I had my hood replaced the bracket was upside down and had rubbed against the fabric of the hood, now it has been correctly fitted it doesn't. Although no expert like Brian or Chris, I would image that no matter how the bracket was fitted that it will rub against any hood that doesn't stow away properly.

          Hope this helps.

thanks for picture. I think I need to check everything, maybe the hood isn't going down far enough as that's how my bracket was .thanks. Len

Len, thanks for the excuse to put my hood down - and go for a drive !

Here's a picture showing my hood stowed :

and a close up of the seal on the front rail. If you look closely at the seal immediately under the bracket in both photos you can see the mark / darker area where the bracket has made contact on the seal (rather than the fabric of the hood):

In my opinion that bracket is a substantial design flaw. Either it rubs on the cover's fabric or it wears through the seal as it's constantly rubbing on it whilst the hood ist down and the tonneau cover is closed. Should be made of some more flexible material or be covered in foam/fabric of some sort...

                  Mark,
If your bracket arrangement is standard, then mine isn't, and it answers a few questions I've been asking myself as to why the front edge of the hood frame has on occasion taken a bit of grief!

I've never known this bracket to be of any other shape, it seemed right, it shields the latching mechanism and doesn't damage the hood seal. The hood lip fits into the recess indicated by the white hand, this has to be carefully coordinated when folding the hood away, failure to get this right and the lip is pressed against the face indicated by the red hand, distorting the front edge quite badly (I know!). I agree that the design is awful, but by accident, with care as previously described, I only get a flattening of the material wrapped around the underside of the hood front edge, as shown by the red outlined hand.
Hmmm, leave as is or change to standard?

                    John,

Your bracket appears to have an extra 90 degree bend in it (compared to mine) making it "S" shaped. I'm not sure that the original intention of the engineers at Triumph was to have to be so careful in locating the hood in the bracket as you do.

Perhaps others could check what they have and let us know ?
