Electrickery was supposed to be an advance on the old capillary/mechanical gauges.Originally posted by mike@thenook View PostDefinitely!
Electric gauges are just too untrustworthy/remote
Of course - the most reliable indicators are the steam powered ones.
When steam is coming out - you KNOW it's overheated

Sender shorting to earth, simple as that. Gauge test procedure exactly as described by Alan, also very simple.
All that said, I'm about to go backwards with technology to fit the caplliary item, as it is part of the dual oil pressure / temp guage. Both gauges in this combination are capilliary driven and inherently simpler. The real difference is in failure, when the electric one fails it may read high, it capilliaries fail they mostly don't read at all and leak. On balance, I'm happier having a gauge to show me oil pressure as part of the deal, you pay your money and take your choice.

Had this set-up for years Steve and it is so much better, as used on MGB's from the start.Originally posted by Stagsongas View PostSender shorting to earth, simple as that. Gauge test procedure exactly as described by Alan, also very simple.
