    Fuel Pump at last giving up -maybe?

    I've never had a problem with my pump which I am pretty sure is the original (it's very old) i've cleaned it's points a few times and it has sometimes decided to stop after a spell in the garage, just hit it and off it goes again;
    Yesterday though it decided to stop working while driving down a lane near we where live (not on the M25 thank God!) - I got out and used the usual clober it method and off it went again, no problem for the next 20 miles since.
    Now I know there has been a lot of chat on here about FP's and the alternatives, fuly electric etc but being as though I have a Holley carb or thought i'd look up what the car carb actually needs by way of pressure etc; IO was a bit suprised that the minimum is 4PSI with a mx of 7 and then reading in the Stag WSM it seems the cut off point for the Stag pump is 3.7 or thereabouts.
    So, I had a look on ebay and there are 2 or 3 Holley pumps that are designed to match Holley carbs, the one that suits my 350CFM is I believe a "Redtop" wich dishes out between 4 and 7, 7 being the max the 350 will take before it starts to complain.
    My question is, has anyone fitted a Holley pump with their Holley carb' and if so are they any good? or should I go for a much cheaper say Facet pump which may do the same job?
    Like I say, it's worked with the standard pump fine for years, I guess as I never use the full capaciity of the Holley it has never needed any more than the pressure that is currently delivered but it is worth thinking about if I need to renew/change anyway.

    Cheers

    I replaced the pump in my Honda (motorbike) with a Facet and I have been very pleased with it.

      I used to use Carter pumps for my Yank V8s, much cheaper and more robust than Facets, which I dumped as a brand as being too unreliable. Was pumping enough fuel to keep 800cfm carbies happy tho'......
      Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

        I bought mine (a few months ago after my original finally died) from LD parts to go with my Holley - and no threat of any trouble so far.

            My pump died today again, Have tried all suppliers -they are all on back order. Apparently su have had production problems.
            I think there is going to be a fair delay till we see them available

                Have you tried Burlen Fuel Systems ? Worth mentioning that most modern pumps operate at too high a pressure for the Strombergs, get a regulator with a gauge, and knock it back to about 2.5 psi. Martin.

                    Thanks for all the ideas guys, I'll have a look at Burlen Wilf too as if i'm replacing I may as well get something that will power the Holley properly.

                    Out of interest, does anyone know where SU get their pumps made now? I ask as I bought a Lucas Sport Coil last week only to find it says made in China on the box - No problem I guess but I was a little surprised given I live in the old world and though Lucas was still an English made product - the quality looks a bit poor on the tabs and screws....
                    My current one (which as it happens seems fine anyway) is a 12 volt Unipart item made by Ducellier in France - it is very old (like the owner)

                    Cheers

                      SU ( Now Burlen Fuel Systems) make all their own parts here in the UK as far as I am aware.
