It will depend on what the inside of the hose is lined with. A specialist supplier could help here (for oil resistance, fluorine lined hoses work well). But as said, it is under no pressure.
Depending on the fittings, a braided replacement may be out, but fitting will be crucial (on a friend's Dolomite 1850, the hose was rubbing on wiring and the steering shaft itself!)
