Having a problem with a Monarch Solo Ultra water softener - it's not softening!

There are no maintenance instructions with it and can't find anything on Google. On top of the machine is a chamber with a dial for brine wash and backwash but not sure what to do.

If anyone is able to help it will be much appreciated.

not familiar with this type but you probably need to go through regeneration cycle al then it will perform backwash operation im guessing ,have you got a pic . I am a fan of Harvey softeners I install them as well because they are the dogs they use block salt and are turbine driven no electrickery such a simple yet effective device

If there isn't an online manual or someone on the forum can't help try emailing the manufacturer. Although not the manufacturers of your particular appliance, I have done this with Phillips and Vailant and found them both very helpful.

I think these are similar Steve, twin tanks and no electrics. Once befoe it stopped working and called out the engineer but unfortunately I couldn't be there so do not know what he did. I have taken a couple of photos, the first one shows the top chamber, the middle screw turns to either backwash or brine rinse, but not sure what else I do.

turn it to brine rinse and let the cycle complete then backwash and allow to complete cycle try that al, it will run back wash for the cycle duration then empty to drain when finished it should be ok to use then .

Just switched to brine rinse now. How long does a cycle take?

depends on the machine al best guess about 40 mins or so

Should it be making any noises or anything? Can't see anything happening

it should be making discernible noise now! just make sure its filled with salt and check its not in bypass it shouldn't be so. just the obvious like water flow etc. ,you can rotate thru to backwash then continue to rinse and backwash again its just a water turbine system driven by incoming water pressure

Something is not right as nothing happening at all.
Last time there was a problem it was something to do with the powdery salt at the bottom of a bag blocking it up, so maybe that's happened again.

What would happen if I swapped the in and out pipes around, would it force water backwards and unblock anything or do something bad?

Definitely not in bypass, and if I run a tap water goes through it but doesn't get softened.
