    Overcharging

The wosp high output alternator I fitted about 3 years ago failed on the way to Silverstone today, at idle all was ok and charging about 14.5v, but anything above 2000prm the ignition light would flash and the voltmeter went up in the red.

The car ran ok, however I was worried about cooking the battery, luckily Roger came to the rescue, lending me his spare alternator for the run home, which probably wouldn't have been so good otherwise, with lights, fan and wipers on because just after we left Silverstone the heavens opened, and we drove 40 miles back in torrential thunderstorm.

The day however at Silverstone was very good, baking sunshine until 6pm, some fantastic cars and wonderful classic racing.

    Thanks again Roger

    cheers

As above try eBay or google with the model of your alternator

                  Thanks Guys,

The alternator itself has no markings or part number on it, the regulator is marked LU1701HD - WT0922 14V, and it does look very similar to this:-

and looking at the Wosp web page, this also lists spare regulator for A127IM type,

It would be good if the alternator had some kind of marking on it to confirm though

                  cheers

My alternator started overcharging on my way to Belgium last year and I had no real option other than to keep going.

I too was worried about cooking the battery and it was bubbling over a fair bit. However I covered nearly a thousand miles like that before getting home and swapping the regulator with one kindly dontaed by a fellow forumite (luckily I have a standard type alternator)

Result - all fixed and battery still seems to be going ok a year later, although I suspect I have shortened its life expectancy.

Hope you get sorted as successfully and easily Dave

                    Cheers

Dave I just looked on wasp web site and they list spares for there alternators .have you tried speaking to the supplier who you bought your alternator for as they should be able to obtain a new regulator for you from wasp,or go for the one that 4x4 has put a link to as that looks the same as yours and is rated up 75 amps

Many thanks Phil, the alternator doesn't appear to have any markings on it at all, only the regulator. I bought it from Wards in April 2010, so I'll contact them this week

                            cheers
