    tubular manifolds

Iam going to go down the route of changing to tubular manifolds and holly carb set up, (might as well get the best out of the engine!)

the first job will be the Tubular manifolds - what one's do people recommend and what difference have they made, i have seen price's quoted from £325 (JamesPaddock) to £500 (Rimmers)

    Hi Ian

Mine came from James Paddock and I'm very pleased with them - definately give more power but not such exactly how much. Mine needed a bit of modification with a blunt instrument to clear the steering column even with new engine mounts!

Very pretty and so much space around the engine - must be something to do with those brick inner wings!

The std manifold come quite close to the inner wings are the tubulars nearer the wings or do they give you more space?

        Bill,

Did they make any difference to the exhaust note?

A previous owner made the same modification to my car, unfortunately they are mild steel and are showing their age so will need replacing at some point in the not too distant future. An additional modification he made was to move the Alternator over to the nearside of the engine as the tubes left very little space for it in its original position - the benefit is that its much easier to get at!

Good clearance on the passenger side....

but a bit busier on the drivers side......steering column is the biggest obstacle to navigate

Previous owner reckons the exhaust note is not so good with the tubular manifolds, but I can't sayI've noticed a huge difference - I still get the V8 burble

Ihave found that the tubular manifolds have blistered the paint work on the inner wing ,so some insulation wrap isa good idea.

                Ian

A few people have warned me about increases in engine bay temperature resulting in all sorts of problems e.g. fuel vapourisation, hot starting woes etc, but I've experienced no suchdifficulties even on long runs. The only problem I've had was when the fuse box lid fell off and melted on the exhaust manifold! I've retained the mechanical fan in addition to the Kenlowe as I thinkconstantly moving the air around helps to keep under bonnet temperatures under control. The PITA job I'm anticipating is removing the starter motor if that becomes necessary!
