    Electrical problems

Hi all Yesterday I suddenly lost my Headlight flasher, Electric windows , Interior lights ,Hazards, Clock and heater fan. They are protected by fuse no 1 but the fuse is OK . Could it be an earth problem as some of them are permanent live and some are switched by the ignition. Has anyone had a similar problem?
    Regards Derek

Could be caused by poor connections of the pins on the fuse board

you say the fuse is ok ,have you tried rolling the fuse around in the fuse box,it could be a bad connection between the fuse and the fuse board

I'm not near my car or a wiring diagram right now so I may well be wrong, but I don't think that all of those components are supplied by the same fuse.

I'd be checking the wiring diagram carefully if I were you. Good luck.

        Cheers

Fuse #1 is Battery Controlled and supplies:

          Horn
          Cigarette Lighter
          Puddle Lamps
          B-post Lamps
          Console Lamps
          Glovebox Lamp
          Clock
          Headlamp Flash
          Electric Windows

Fuse #2 is Ignition Controlled and supplies:

          Fuel Guage
          Temp Guage
          Tachometer
          Wndscreen Washer
          Stop lights
          Reverse lights
          Turn Signals

Heater Motor is supplied by fuse #11

I would take each fuse out and clean its contacts and the contacts of the fuse holders. Also check the fuse holders are secure. The rivets can become slack, creating increased resistance, and over heat. Which can have disastrous consequences.

Got to agree with Dave and others on this as I too have been having some electrical problems recently which are all the items controlled by Fuse 2 (which is O.k.)
            so a contact problem.

                Derek,

Your post mentioned you had lost the heater fan. Is this still the case, or is it a different problem, because that one has its own fuse.

Found the fault I powered the top of the fuse clip on No 1 and all worked but nothing going into the fuse board ,traced it to a connector inside engine bay near the battery at the bottom of front wing. Power into it but nothing out. I will have to check the whole car over before winter as this is not the only bad connection I have found I also hate bullet connector horrible things nothing but trouble . . Someone told me about a Silicon spray gel that seals connectors. has anyone used it or is it any good?

The bullet connectors under the front are a common problem; they are exposed to the elements; all female (bullet sockets) should be renewed (cheap enough) and the male bullets cleaned with a wire Dremel or wire wool.

But those connectors only affect things at the front like fornt lights, horns. But that will not explain your other losses of power inside the car. I have found internal connectors badly crudded up too. Need to clean them up fully.

This is the stuff that I try to use on ALL electrical connections: http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.u...7/category/154

They make great claims for it but only time will tell However I would hope that it'll be much better than nothing.

                      Cheers
