Facet fuel pumps - has anyone tried them?

Folks following on from a previous post of mine regarding a need for a fuel pump. I gather Wilf needed a pump and managed to source one - but as a bit of a peasant the price seems a bit steep. So my question is; Do I have to shell out that much, when these 'Facet' branded pumps are advertised on ebay as suitable for Stags are only £29.99. Has anyone tried them (or similar types) and had a bad experience? Maybe a case of "getting what you pay for"? I'd be interested on your thoughts before I do have to commit the £££££'s.

    Cheers
    Gord

How little do you want to pay for an essential piece of equipment Gord? is £70 - £80 for an SU replacement too much? As a hobby we are suffering by the perception that people are only prepared to pay bottom price for anything, personally I'd rather pay a little more and have some quality.

Tried facet pumps in my kitcar days, never rated them highly tbh.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I appreciate what you're saying Ian but i see it the other way - why shell out a load IF it's just for the sake of it? If there is a definate line in terms of an items ability to do the job then naturally i would agree with you, i'm just asking is there a distinct difference in that ability with these items. I've thrown more money at this thing than i ever intended and its still not yet roadworthy, if i can reasonably try to save some i will, if its a non starter then the old bank balance will unfortunately have to take another pasting!!

I seem to recall that the facet pumps were incredibly noisy - might be wrong though.
Try and search on here for facet.

Edit: here is one for you: http://www.stag.org.uk/forum/showthr...ighlight=facet

You may find that the £30 pump gives out too much pressure, you replace float jets and then buy a £80 pressure regulator to cure the problem. You and your passengers will certainly need ear defenders, not sure how much they cost.

Hi, according to the ad the spec is 1.5 - 4.0 psi for the pump used for engines up to 150bhp - within acceptable parameters I gather? However it seems the general opinion of these pumps make them a bit of a no no so i'll bow to experience.
              Thanks to all

Thanks for posting the link Al, it seems everyone thinks they're too noisy and a bit suspect so I wont bother. Just have to try and find one as Wilf reckons there's a shortage with suppliers at the minute.

Wards had a coupe of QH types left on their shelf.

I use a Facet 50104 (the cube type) on my Honda motorbike and it's a lot more reliable than the Mitsubishi pump which I took off. You might need to ask them which pump is suitable for the application, as you want very little pressure up at the carbs so you need only a few psi back at the pump end to achieve that (I think the standard pump is 3psi, so the smallest Facets would suffice). Also to consider is whether you want 'positive cut off' or not - the answer is probably yes, as I think with the existing pump when power is cut the solenoid won't move and fuel can't pass through the valves.

On the noise, the Facet does make a ticking noise. I can't hear it on my bike but I imagine in a car it would depend on how it was mounted. If you listen to the standard pump on a Stag with the boot open you can certainly hear it when it does its stuff every few seconds. I would say that my Facet 50104 is about the same volume but ticks much more frequently. I use a home-made rubber mounting. Facet used to do an anti-vibration mount but I believe it is no longer available.
