    Hobbies & Interest

Seeing as my previous post "Forum Names" was well received and is still going well and we are getting to know a bit more about one-another I thought I might start this one I'll kick it off again, what else do you enjoy apart from the obvious one

    Mine are;

Gardening, Fishing, Historic commercial vehicles, DIY, Motorcycling, Fish keeping and although I don't anymore (can't afford it, got priced out of it) I have an extensive collection of Match Box models dating from the 50's until the late 70's

Too much time on your hands, methinks
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

I'd like to say my Stag, however with 4 grandchildren under the age of 4 I seem to spend a lot of time with them lately, at least I managed to get one of them out in the car last week! My other hobby 's are holidays, mainly of the cruise variety and Kenyan Safari's, and I'm a part time Wedding Celebrant which is a hobby rather than job of work as I retired 9 years ago

I used to (coarse) fish in all my spare time as a lad. Now, semi retired I am now trying to recapture the spirit of the sport.

Any tips for where's good in our area Ian?

          "Historic commercial vehicles"

Myself as well - I am a part owner of a 1950 ex-Birmingham Crossley double-decker, although since I moved down South, I don't get to see it so much.

When I took early retirement 4 years ago, I really thought that I would have a lot more time for hobbies and interests - somehow, it hasn't quite worked out that way

However, when I find the time I enjoy cycling (nothing professional and certainly no bloody Lycra ), gardening, DIY (with a 400 year old house that's a neccessity), driving/sightseeing and going to pubs. Living in the middle of the country, with a wife who doesn't drive, taxiing also takes up quite a bit of my time but I wouldn't describe it as a hobby.

I guess my biggest single time taker is my beloved (and then my wife )

All in all a pretty conventional, but very enjoyable, lifestyle. Having commuted 220 miles/day for the last 25 years of my work, I feel I deserve a bit of a rest

            Cheers

            Julian

Hello Ian Clay pigeon shooting does it for me these days, great for de stressing, i also keep a couple of tanks of tropical fish, this is a hobby from my childhood.
My model train layout in oo gauge is a great way to relax both running the trains and constructing the model buildings from scratch, another hobby from childhood.
Collecting fossils is a childhood hobby which i still do to this day, i have a large collection of fossils
I have collected war medals with their original documents and photographs for 25 years or so now, the research i do for this has led me into researching our family trees of which i have now completed all 6 trees, also i have researched in a limited way the war records and exploits of the soldiers on the local war memorial for the history society in our village. As Jeff says to much time on my hands..or is it just good planning and organisation we may never know.
Lastly the Stag, as i am on a budget these days, the Stag only gets to go out once a week so i take it shooting, long drive before.... then long drive home ...boring life isn't it Ian....Steve

I was a member of this club up until 2 years ago Chris http://www.wadaa.co.uk/ right on your doorstep and very well run and stocked.

The only reason I let my membership lapse is I found this place about 4 years ago and now go away a couple of times a year, we can take the Dog with us and just chill the whole time, I fish and Wife reads on her Kindle, for a week or so. The accommodation is 1st class as well http://www.lakepochard.co.uk/fishing.html (click on the Walters lake tab)

You have have Old Bury Hill near by in Dorking and off course you are right on the Thames which can be very good around your way and the Desborough cut.

                  Ian.

Yep - let's keep it our secret

Great to read what you get up to Steve. Your trains reminded me that I must get out my Scalextric sets - I guess maybe I could have put that down as a hobby but SWMBO only allows me to get it out (Scalextric, that is ) a few times a year (understandably, I regret to say)

                    Cheers

                    Julian

I am lucky Julian i have ( after various concessions ) been allowed control of a spare room, where the train layout remains as a permanent fixture, i have some major work to do shortly which could be difficult as the room seems to have shrunk since i last had to squeeze around the back of the layout!!! a semi retired blokes work is never done...Steve

Spare time is at a bit of a premium, besides working, I have a commute of 20 - 25hrs/week and I use the time on the train to work on a Law degree I'm doing. I have two fish tanks, one Tropical, one of goldfish, my Rottweiler and, of course, my youngest daughter aged 7 to look after.

Surely it would be easier just to get a lawyer to defend yourself against neighbour's charges that you are being a social nuisance?
