Rev counter drops when lights turned on - any help appreciated

Hi all. Thanks for the quick responses and apologies for my slow response.......................work keeps getting in the way, but I have found out that I need a job to own a classic car to pay for repair bills.......... or is it flowers and treats for my wife..........I think I know which I have spent more on since I bought the car. I hope she appreciates it lol.

I have just been out and checked the car quickly before it started to rain - don't you just love the summer!!

Steve - Thanks for the comment - it happens at idle as well. The moment I turn on the lights the needle drops right down

Russ - Hi there I think I will feel right at home in the loony bin. Thanks again for the comments - I took it for a quick run and there is no drop in engine speed at all when you turn them on - just the needle drops. I will check the earth and see what effect that has

I have this problem and Vmad said it was probably a bad earth on the tacho. Hardly ever drive the car in the dark (it stays light a lot longer here) so never got round to fixing it yet.

Alan - when I made a post about the problem some years ago it was Vmad who then replied to me suggesting it was a bad earth - not Russ.
That was what I was refering to, not the current replies. I am sure Chris would confirm that.
