    What shade of Brown.

Hi guys this is my first post and also my first Stag. I have a couple of questions for anyone to answer/assist me with.

Firstly I have had my Stag about a month now and starting to think about putting her away for the Aut/Winter, the Radiator could do with being replaced, not due to overheating but it's had its day. Should I go for the Supergill or the 4 Row Core?.

Secondly the Hard Top what came with her is Green so I have to get it painted Brown to suit the car. The colour of the car at the moment is Russet Brown, Im thinking about Febuary time all the car and Hard top done so everythings fine for my first summer, but the colour I want is just plane old darkish Brown can anyone who has this colour show me some photos and the paint code if its the one Im wanting.

    Cheers

    Hi Colinh

Try to keep the car in its original colour. That way you it will keep its market value.
If you change the colour and unless its done form a bare shell it will de-value the car..

Russet is on the later cars 75/76 on I think. There is a guide if you just Google Triumph colours..

The original colour should be on your chassis plate on the L/h B post..

If you're going to the expense of refurbing the hard top why plan to put the car away over the Winter? these cars were designed to be used all year round and the hard top makes it a different car in my opinion, I don't see the point in laying them up I'm afraid.

Quite agree. Laying up Stag = Spring problems. Better to use it regularly when the weather is fine. The money saved declaring SORN can be false economy.

Must be an age thing, as brown Stags seems to suit Stags, especially with light interiors and silver Minilites. I'm sure I wouldn't have said that a few years ago.

Maple is the lightest of the browns - or maybe not if you read this thread : http://www.stag.org.uk/forum/showthr...ighlight=Maple

Colin. Plenty of replied to your paint question, but none yet about the radiator. I strongly recommend the four row type with offset cores. These are generally recognised by radiator repairers as being the most efficient design for the Stag. "Supergill" as far as I know is a marketing name for another design of core. Mike.

Colin, I had this decision to make recently when the radiator in my Stag started leaking. It did have a Tony Hart Supergill radiator fitted 20 years ago - I have the receipt but was replaced about 10 years ago. I took the radiator to a local repair specialist who fitted a 3 core more efficient design, used for rallying / racing. It has offset cores. It cost £180 and took about a week to do. Last weekend I drove down to Devon in the car and was stuck on the M5 for hours crawling along - 6 hour journey. The radiator and cooling system were absolutely fine. Good luck with your choice. Mark

They are electric and as far as I can ascertain the car was originally delivered with them as a dealer fit - they are very similar to those fitted to Jaguars in the mid 70's and use a couple of toggle switches on a panel under the right hand side of the dash. They operate in a noisy stepped motion, but are very handy.

Colin in response to your PM query, my paint code is 93 - Russet Brown, the photo's I posted were taken shortly after its return from Faversham Classics when the front end was resprayed following an accident. They also had to 'blow over' the sides of the car to get a good match as they found my car actually had about 3 different shades of Russet Brown on it! In fact this is plainly obvious in the flesh as the boot lid and rear top panel are a slightly different shade - but the hardtop is a very good match to the new paint and that is original. The moral of this is there are many shades of Russet Brown - it depends how good the paint mixer is!
