Viscous Coupling Failed

One of our local Stags had an under bonnet refresh last winter courtesy of Andy Moss. This included a new fan. This fan got mangled in the aluminium radiator and was replaced with another new fan. Guess what? The car now has a good SH fan fitted and no problems, having done several long runs, including Stafford this weekend.

Watch out for some of the new ones on the market if you have very little space - like when an aluminium radiator is in place.

Thanks, Dave, Just purchased a new fan from Paddocks, looks ok although the made in Taiwan sticker on the box has not filled me with confidence.

I can’t use the original one as it is too badly bent when it became stuck on the base of the rad.

Something is seriously wrong when second-hand parts are better than new. It is not just Stag parts it affects all classics. Not sure what the answer is I just hope the suppliers take note of the failures and source appropriately.

Pity there is not a way bad quality parts could not be publically reported without fear of a legal challenge.

That isn't really a problem. So long as you accurately describe what happened, keeping it factual, not personal, and offering no personal opinions, you should have no fear of legal recriminations. All you have done is to state facts as they happened to you.

Your best bet is to just keep sending the duff parts back and hope the suppliers take note.
