    strange problem with radiator

hi guys first post on here so bare with, my stag's radiator is stone cold and the car temp is going straight into the red after a very short period of time, it seems like nothing is getting to the radiator at all!, i had a new water pump fitted less than 6 months ago, could the thermostat be stuck closed? I dont really know any other problems which could cause this anyone have any ideas or suggestions any help is much appreciated.

Hi "Crazywest" . Welcome to the forum.

It certainly sounds like a circulation problem as you suggest. First port of call though would be to ensure that you have no airlocks in the system. Make sure the N/S front is the highest point, make sure the heater is set to hot and top it up as and when necessary.

You could try running it for a bit without the thermostat and see if that fixes the problem. With the 'stat removed and the bung off the top of the radiator you should be able to see the coolant flowing from the pump. If the problem still persists then it does sound like the pump may be at fault. There are some iffy ones about with soft drive teeth that don't last very long.

Fingers crossed it is only the thermostat.

    Regards

    Dave
