Hi all,
I've been busy under the bonnet for a while now, replacing many parts.
Rather annoyingly, i've had a flat spot/miss between 3-4,000 revs since i've owned the car.
I'ev changed everything for new and have been dismayed to have the fault remain. I've also been a little concerned with the thin blue smoke in exhaust and carbon/black from exhaust on hard acceleration. All leads were sparking but I noticed that if I took a lead from a particular cylinder on each bank, the spark was there but there was no drop in engine revs.
Last week I got a nasty shock from the "new" distributor cap and realised that the quality of the new leads and new cap was poor. I ordered a new set of better quality leads and cap on line and changed them over yesterday.
I thought I would do the job properly and located No.2 on the cap and worked anticlockwise from there to the relevant cylinder number. I soon realised that I have been driving for a year now with two of the leads going to the wrong plugs on opposite blocks!!!
I now have a V8 firing beautifully on all 8 cylinders with no missing at all across the rev range, no blue smoke and no clouds of black smoke on acceleration. The engine is now smooth and powerful! (I was even asking on here the other day about engine rebuilds and piston ring replacement!).
Whilst it was nice to have a rumbling V6 for the last year, I prefer the V8 version.
Just hope I haven't caused any damage
Thanks to the PO for putting them in the wrong order and well done to me for doing it properly this time!
