    Luminition

Mornin chaps, been a bit quiet for a while.
I have a running problem, but at this stage I just want to ask what are the symptoms of a Luminition failure? I don't want to pre-empt a response so I'll say no more at this point. I'll give more info if there are any replies.
    Cheers
    Dave

My mate blew my control module by wiring it the wrong way , neg to pos , thats the only one i know of failing , is the optic eye clean ? i googled lumenition and got a complete installation guide and fault finding info.
make sure it has good wiring connections and the earth is clean.

        Hi Dave,

Of the two Lumenitions I had fail (out of two) the one in the TR7 V8 would run for days and then cut out without warning. It would not restart until left for a few minutes. Thenit would fire up and be OK for another few weeks. Eventually it failed at the head of a queue at a set of traffic lights (was I popular?) and refused to start again.

The one fitted to my current Stag when I bought it would allow the Stag to run for about 200 yds and then cut out. Left for a few minutes it would restart and run again for another 200yds, etc.

Two slightly different scenarios......the TR could have been heat-related, but the Stag one was not.

If you log onto the TR Register forum you will find a great deal of info about Lumenition, much of itadverse criticism, and some of it from me!

          Ok, a bit more info.

The car is still operational, so loath to take unit out for testing at this stage, (thanks Voyager). The unit has been in about 10 years and is mountedon the rear bulkhead near the bonnet catch.

The problem is not apparent when cold and takes the form of a slight misfire when hot, particularly at slow speeds and on acceleration. It seemed to start last year while we were away on our trip to Rome. The further south we got the worse the problem. On an open road it wasn't too bad but limited my ability to overtake.

As we returned to Normandy with lower ambient temps, problem almost disappeared. Car was not really used again till a few weeks ago when, on a club run, the problem was still there, (it was quite a warm day).

The other point of note is my leads arn't great, several are hard at the plug end. I'm about to change these anyway, but I'm a bit nervous as I'm planning another adventure for next year. I didn't want this to pop up & bite me at an inopportune moment.

Thats why I wanted to cast round for opinions first as it's too easy to say, "ah, it's the leads".
          Thanks again
          Dave

Dave I would say your problem is more like to be elsewhere. I would 1st establish that your HT leads, plugs, rotor arm and dizzy cap are ok.

Like others say, from my experience, it was not the lumention at all, but a combination of plug leads and dist. cap. I agree that best to try those first if poss
