    Engine problem, not Stag.

The engine light came on today on my CRV so it will obviously need to go to a garage for diagnosis but I thought I'd describe the symptoms on the off chance someone can tell me what to expect is wrong.
The car drives ok up to around 2900rpm or so when there is a complete loss of power, if I hold the throttle down in neutral it revs up to the same revs and fluctuates by about 100 revs rapidly.
    Any thoughts gratefully received.

3k RPM is the limp mode setting on my Vauxhall diesel, lots of conditions will activate limp mode though so you'll need the codes reading to find out cause.

Yes, it has gone into RP or restricted performance mode, to try to prevent further damage according to whatever sensor is having a bad day.

I've been doing some googling and it seems the Vtec valve may be at fault or just need a clean out.
I don't fancy pulling it apart tonight as I have to get up for work at 4.30am. I don't think the neighbours will appreciate me taking the Stag out at that time so I'll have to risk limping the Honda.

              Hi Kevin,
You can get OBD code readers for £15 from amazon etc. I got one when the light came on on the rav4 and it siad it was am o2 sensor.
From the code you can google what is wrong. Might just be a maf sensor needs cleaning.

              Hope it is something simple.

              Al.

Our 2.2 diesel CRV goes into limp home mode every 15,000 miles, and it is always the EGR valve, a can of Wynns Professional EGR cleaner and its cured.

Mine's petrol and it seems to rev OK today although the light is still on. Hopefully be able to plug in a tester tomorrow.
