    Petrol dripping from overflow

Good afternoon all, I am after a bit more help if you would be so kind.
i have been struggling with the engine just holding back a little and recently took the the car to a local carburettor specialist for a bit of a check up, where he changed one diaphragm and both carb tops. When I drove the car home it was just the same. However when I now start the car with choke it starts first time but runs like a pig and the smell of petrol is quite strong. As soon as I turn the choke off the car runs better but struggles to tick over properly until it is warm. Today After an hour or so run and after it was parked up I noticed a strong smell of petrol and on inspection, petrol was dripping albeit slowly from the overflow pipe sited well out of harms way near the offside wheel.
could my problem be that I am flooding one or both carburettors? I have fitted new floats but I have not touched the needles etc.

    Thanks once again

    Regards

Have you fitted the floats the right way up and at the correct height? Easy to get them upside down. Could well be the valves not seating and allowing one or both of the carbs to flood.

Hi Dave, not too sure if they are fitted correctly but I would have only changed one at a time using the other as a reference, that of course doesn't mean they were fitted correctly before! I will check them out. Am I right in saying that it is a tricky job to change the needles and their seats?

        Thanks

No, dead easy, but will need the carb float chambers off again. And then reset float height.

It's easy to fit the float chamber gasket wrong too. Guess how I know that. It looks symmetrical but fit one the wrong way round and it fouls the needle valve at the top of the float.
