hi all , when adjusting the handbrake , do the operating levers needto be pushed towards the backplate or pulled away from the backplate when connecting the cable ? I was told by a parts specialist they should be pushed towards the backplate , I did this and the handbrake was appauling !!!! I then reverted to pulling them inboard , the handbrake got better but not brilliant !!! maybe I,ve answered my own question ,but would like to know for sure !! I had the footbrake depressed whilst doing both these operations!!! any views on this much appreciated !! rgds Graham

I believe that the correct way is to disconnect the handbrake cable and pull the levers toward the backplate. Then stamp on the brake pedal a few times to get the adjuster to 'click-up' (assuming they operate OK!). Then reconnect the handbrake cable, adjusting its length as required. You should find that if the adjusters have operated correctly, there is very little lever movement required to get the brake to come on.
This is what I've done over the years with the Stag and all the Triumph big saloons I've had. It's always worked OK for me!
