    Does this look like HGF?

    Hi everyone,
I have noticed small pools of coolant on the floor each day this week and have just climbed under to find the problem.
Its the right bank, just above oil filter/pump. It looks to be seeping through the head gasket around the bolts to the manifold to me. Am I right do we think?

    Difficult to see properly Dom.
Isn't there a block drain plug there somewhere or maybe further forward..
Try a head re-torque first as you never know that might be all it needs..

      Sam,
Great, I have a torque wrench, I'll have a go at that first.
Ive not done this before, but I have read up on here as to the 55 torque and the sequence. The only thing Im not too sure about is the suggestion of loosening a 'flat' first. Im assuming that is loosening the bolt a touch before tightening to avoid sheering the head off etc, the question is, how far is a flat? Is it moving the bolt to the next flat on the bolt head? (thinking as I type!!)
      Cheers,
      Dom

It is literally just taking the tension off before re-tightening otherwise the tightness (as it probably wont have been moved for a while) of the nut/bolt might give you a false reading..

          Excellent, thanks very much.
Lets hope it'll work, I'll have a go tomorrow.

            One final question,
The torque wrench I have is marked "torques newton meters' but the manuals talk of 55 lbf ft.
Is there a difference and if so, what should I set mine to?

              1 newton meter (N m) = 0.7375621493 pound-force feet (lbf ft) so 55 lbf ft is 74.6 Nm

If the retorque doesn't fix it I would try a dose of Kseal next. The problem might not be the gasket but corrosion of the head face, it might bung it up for a year or two until something else goes wrong!

Dom there's a good units converter here:

55 foot pounds is about 75 newton metres.

edit: oops beaten to it x2 lol. Had to burp a baby while replying :-)

Mine was doing exactly the same last year, weeping from the head gasket. I re torqued, following directions from Mr Flying Farmer and others and the old girl has been fine ever since even during the hot weather this year. Well worth doing and only took half an hour.

                        Thanks Neil,
Thats the plan of action, any delay is a bonus, i'm trying to summon up the courage and technical know-how to have a go at the head gaskets in the next year!
And thanks Mathew also, Ive been using the Nm measurement on everything, thinking I was using the lbf setting without realising! Learning new stuff on here every day!!

                          Excellent news Dan,
Not sure why I didn't think of this myself really! ha.
I'll let you all know how it turns out.

The leak could be coming from the rear cylinder head transfer housing and tracking along the block/head joint.
