Hi Mike, I had a dolomite sprint before , sold it and bought a stag from a guy who was a stag owners club member , unfortunately I think he has sold me a duff one , sounds like the water pump is gone, did not notice anything when I viewed the car, within an hour of him leaving my house I rang him and asked that I wanted my money back or a contribution to the repairs to which he refused on both counts.
When he turned up in the car I heard a knocking as if something was loose , I did not take any notice at the time as I thought it was something simple.
When I went to put it in the garage I could hear it and it sounded louder, I then call the guy I bought it off and he said if it was serious his mechanic would have picked it up ....
Any way roger came down from warwick and put a screw driver around the engine to here where the knocking was coming from and it sounds louder when he put the screwdriver on top of the water pump housing.
its kind of made me loose faith in the car so far as I have not even driven it properly........... the oil pressure is good the temp is good the engine is strong ... its just this knock it sounds like a tensioner or something ..... I just hope its not the big ends....... the car has been serviced every year since the previous owner had it I have all receipts , it was serviced in april this year and was back in for fuel lines around the air filter element in july .
Would have to hear it first but a knocking is not usually the pump, only way to tell is take it out and check it and the Jackshaft gear for wear or damage.
Whereabouts are you, maybe some more local could give you a second opinion/diagnosis.
Ian

Paul, welcome. Sorry to hear about your problem. If we can't find someone to drop by can you record it onto you tube and post it here? Not ideal but better than nowt
If it is the WP, there is a fit any forget solution for about £300 and a half day spanner wielding - The Stagdad external WP
Paul - 3 projects, 1 breaker - garage built and housing 2 white Stags. One runs, one doesn't
Paul, this noise may or may not be something serious, it might just be an exhaust leak! So nil desperandum until someone handy nearby can help you diagnose it fully.
