    "car History Help"

Afternoon all, I am reseaching my cars history and doing rather well but cannot find a picture of the garage that first registered it and then sold it after six months, which was Gavin Fairfax ltd of Station Parade Virginia Water Surrey. Also did anyone else's Stag start it's life off at GAVIN FAIRFAX LTD, as they were a standard Truimph/Rover/Jag dealer.

So the Question is does anyone have a picture of the above garage,or any info on it?.

Thanks for your time in advance.

I can't help with a picture but the reason I have just bought a Stag is that I was so impressed with one I drove in the 1970's when working for Ashby's Garage in Cobham, Surrey. The connection is that Ashby's (which sold the 'lower end' BL products) was under the same ownership as Gavin Fairfax and the Stag was the managing director's car for a short time. His name was Brian Woodfield and I think he was already running GF when he bought some or all of Ashby's from the original owner, Mr Ashby (whose first name has slipped my mind). Ashby's Garage, which was in Between Streets (yet there should be an 's' at the end of 'street'), has long gone and has been replaced by a Waitrose supermarket, so I wonder if GF went the same way. I must have visited GF a few times, collecting or delivering cars, but I've no recollection of what it was like.

Hi Richard, thanks very much for the reply, just to comfirm. Are you saying that the Managing director was driving a yellow stag around the begining of 1976?, i have replied on this thread rather than a PM as others may find it interesting, when they are trying to reseach their cars history. Gavin fairfax garage was sold to stratstones and later sold for flats etc as it was very close to the the Wentworth golf club. I have spoken to a gentleman who used to work at the garage and he said that it backed onto the station and they used to chat up the girls that were waiting on the platform, he owns a P6 Rover.
He does not have a picture either nor does the Surrey histroric society. I have tried to contact Stratstones, but they seem unwilling to reply, they must have pictures in their archive from when they purchased the property, funny how these large concerns will not support their history.
I do have a name to write to at Pendragon plc to see if i can get any further.
I have also just heard from the previous previous owner who owned it for 10 yrs he sent we some nice pictures and info.

      Thanks martin

Have you tried putting "Gavin Fairfax" into Google images? There is some advertising stuff there, but I didn't search far enough to see any pictures of the garage!

        Cheers,
        Mike.

            Oh well, worth a thought.

            Good luck with the search.

            Cheers,
            Mike.
