    Sick of electric shocks

    Hi guys

I have this problem of being shocked repeatedly by my car cover, and wonder if any of you suffer the same, or if you have found a cure....

I have a Hamilton Classics Moltex cover - very good piece of kit except on dry days when I take the cover on and off...... the whole cover crackles with staticas I fold or unfold it from the car - usually culminating (good word that - culminate) in a huge static belt from the thing as I approach my porch to store the cover for the day.... I feel like someone's shoved a working Tesla coil into my arms.... it is seriously uncomfortable......

I've tried different shoes, earthing myselfwith my hand to the ground before setting off - nothing works and I still get a belt off it....

If the cover is damp, no problem....

Any ideas how to stop this, except hosing the cover before removing it, getting a garage and dumping the cover, driving the car around with the cover on to save people's retinaor repaintingthe carany other colour than Java....

Didn't your namesake from Red Dwarf suffer from that occasionally? LOL

      We suffer this at work.

I wear rubber soled shoes no electric shocks

My colleage wears plastic soles, shuffles on the carpet constantly giving and getting shocks.

Today as he reached for the phone he zapped me, which cut me off the call on the other line. The customer on the phone said it sounded like a lightning strike from the other end of the phone.

Other than new shoes we haven't found an answer yet

        Hi Russ,

I also have your problem with my Moltex cover - it is a right pain in the preverbials!

I just keep repeatedly touching the car so I get smaller shocks more often .

Does it normally happen when you lift a corner and see what's underneath?

How about some form of earthing strap like you used to see on cars?

should that be attached to the perverbials or thr ground? as you will be aware you can pay a lot of money for that up the west end!

                    Russ

This is a classic problem with made made fibre as I'm sure you're aware. Wearing insul;ating shoes can often worsen the problem as the charge can then build to higher levels before it escapes to earth ...usually through one of your extremities (ouch)

There are several static reducing sprays on the market however you may get away with spraying your cover with a common or garden fabric conditioner. It's not a permanent fix and from what I've heard needs re applying every couple of weeks...apparently the electrical resistance of the fabricsurface is reduced

                    Might be worth trying

a very practical solution was discussed yesterday evening although it would appear that you need to be familiar with the film Pulp Fiction to be shock free
