    Identification plates.

So the two ID tags by the bonnet, they go front to back but which goes nearest the L/H side and which goes nearest the middle?, Painted/unpainted.
I was considering leaving them off but I like the trouble I get from the MOT man.

Those plates have nothing to do with the MoT. They are (I believe) a body and build number. They do not have the Commission number which is on the plate in the LH door 'hole'.

In my rebuild, I did put these back, one before the spraying and the other after just to be original, but to be honest, they serve no other purpose!

    Cheers,
    Mike.

Yep I'm missing the bonnet plates and no trouble with the MOT.

I did reply to this, but its not here?
Anyway, question still is, does the painted one go nearest the middle of the car, or nearest the L/H wing?
As for the MOT bit, I was referring to the way MOT testers always want to take down that number and I have to explain why its wrong.

          Pete,

According to The Original Triumph Stag - The Restorers Guide, the plate beginning with T was put on after the shell was painted and is nearest to the bonnet hinge. However it does state that on some cars the position is reversed.

Does this help. The ID tags are on the near side of the front panel running front to rear with the unpainted one on the near side(left side).

Its shiny Like the ID tag I also polished.

I have used a great deal of high quality polished stainless nuts and bolts in this rebuild.
Cadmium might look nice when new, but I dont see the point in buying new nuts and bolts only to watch them turn grey and go rusty before my eyes.
All the hose clips are stainless, I know that in years to come, any time I need to change a hose, the clip will undo without my having to break it, and it will still look like new.
