    HRS Uprated Stromberg Carb Needles/Springs

Has anyone any experience of these? (in ebay at £50.00)

I've got the old Strom's all back and running fine but intrigued as to the value of this upgrade used with tubulars and straight through HRS centre boxes.

    Cheers

I was wondering this as well when I realised the strombergs on the Stag engined estate needed a rebuild. That also uses tubular manifolds and straight through boxes.

In the end I decided to rebuild to standard needles and see what my lambda sensor said as it was hopelessly rich over 4000rpm before the rebuild.

One set of new needles and jets later, the mixture was perfect throughout the rev range so I left well alone!

      Cheers for that Neil,

I must admit i have used the "traditional methods" to adjust mine (lifting each piston an 1/8 and the tube and ear for balancing) and mine seem to run beautifully with no flat spots or apparent over-richness but i'll have a look at the plugs soon and see what they look like.
There is definitely a slight lack of urge between the Strom's and the Holley but probably not enough to worry about, i'll run it like it is for a while and then decide whether to put the Holley back or not - Thanks for saving me that £50 though!

Mike, can I ask why you've gone away from the Holley.
The reason for my question is that when I eventually get my car back on the road I have a new Holley to fit..
I am just curious as to why you reverted back to the Strombergs..

+1. I thought you went to the expense of fitting a Monarch adaptor too which seemed to cure a number of issues.

            Hi Chas & Sam,

Nothing at all wrong with the Holley or the excellent Monarch adaptor but in a moment of madness having found my Stroms lurking withe some other spare bits I just thought I would re-build them and see how they perform against the Holley - as I guess i'd forgotten since I made the original change some years back.
I've only had it up and running properly with them for a couple of days really but after a longer run today and using the right pedal a little more there is a very noticeable difference between how it pulls with the Holley against the Stroms; the Stroms give a bit more very low down but they run out some way before the Holley, particularly after 60 where the Holley goes on pulling and the Stroms run out of gasp, the original reason I fitted the Holley some years back.
So, having now got them all set up and running I think I'll probably sell 'em as a rebuilt set, not to the standard of a certain supplier on here (I couldn't mirror that) but they have Vitons fitted and all the pipework is new etc.
So, experiment over it's back to the Holley; it is an excellent fuss free carb which runs beautifully now it is correctly jetted for the TV8 and I really like the fact I can remove the pancake filter with just one nut and get full access to everything underneath it!
I didn't remove the catch tank when I fitted the Stroms so it's an easy job to switch back.
If you want any help from afar when you do fit your Holley Sam i'd be happy to give some guidance but it is pretty easy - but DO get the correct jets from Monarch, the ones normally supplied (mine was from HRS originally) are OK for the RV8 but run too rich for the Stag, the best £7.00 you'll ever spend!

            Cheers!

Hi Mike I am running a Holley on one of my Stags and read with interest that you have changed the jets. do you happen to know the size of the jets that you installed as I would like to try them and unless the are something special should be readily available from my Holley dealer here in Toronto

                  Thanks

Sam Not sure how much guidance you will get but you may enjoy seeing my other stag that I am installing fuel injection on as well as my latest purchase (hopefully this Sunday) a 1950 Commer Express Delivery van. Whilst we are on the subject of the Commer van does anyone know of a club or parts source for them Dave
