    Clouding on Windscreen

I have noticed that in the corners ofmy windscreen I can see what can only be described as fogging. It seems to extend 2 or 3 inches from the corners.

I noticed a while back but as I was was not able to drive the car i did not pay it much attention but now driving the car i tend to notice it more. had a quick look last night but was unable to decide if it is inside or outside on the glass.

Does anyone kno what I am talking about and if yes how to remove it?

Assuming it's not just normal clouding you get from road fumes, dust etc. being blown at the inside of the screen, i.e. you can't just wipe it off, then I'd suggest that if you have a laminated screen it is beginning to de-laminate and the fogging is inside the screen between layers.

Not sure how you'd fix it, possibly some glass repair glue stuff, like used for cracks, applied to the edge of the screen?

The only thing you can do is replace the screen. Sealing the edges may stop it spreading further but you would have to remove the screen to do this. Does Swiss insurance cover replacement?

Steve, I agree a new windscreen would be the only answer however a couple of attractive colourful stickers, placed in the corners, would be a cheaper option! - Alan

My screen is the same in the lower O/side corner, my understanding is that it is caused by moisture in the laminate. The fix is a new screen. Mines been like it since i have had the car - this corner of the screen had a leak where i have some rust in the screen surround - splodge of sealant has stopped the leak and the cloudyness has got no worse.

.......but hasn't fixed the route-cause which is the remove the screen, fix the rot, repaint, new screen - it is on the list

          cheers....Andy

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping some form of polishing kit would have helped but I guess not.

Unfortunatly the brick trick does not work over here also so I will live with it unless it gets worse.

            Thanks for the info.

When I had my windscreen out I spent several hours using a glass polishing kit trying to remove the cloudiness. I managed to remove some of it, so the glass is clearer, butcloudiness isstill detectable if you look closely. I reckon it some chemical in the rubber that has bonded with the glass, caused perhaps by moisture. I don't believe it is in between the glass layers as the join between my glass layers had a thick bitument type sealant on to prevent moisture ingress.
