    anti roll bar rubber bushes

Guys - just now trying to fit new anti roll bar rubber bushes (have got anti roll bar off car) and just cannot get the rubber bushes to "slide" down the bar to the stop plates on the bar. I have got them over the end flanges (using boiling water etc) and have LM greased the bar itself and still cannot get the bushes to slide. Did I read on Forum that you can get either polybush (or other) "split" bushes that can be put onto the bar rather than slide on - apologies for long thread, but bit desperate to finish this + other things for looming MOT, many thanks for any assistance / ideas.

    Cheers

The standard ones go best on with washing up liquid but I have fitted the superflex split ones and as you say, they can go on in situ

I would not use grease (rot's rubber) I would use washing up liquid make sure the bar is clean, I don't think there's a secret to this, if after this they still won't go on I think it's send them back from whence they came. Good Luck Graham

Thanks Andrew - I'll try washing up liquid - if not I'll go for the poly bush. Looking at the suppliers photos of these, there seems to be different "shapes", can I ask where you got yours from, as I don't want to get a type which may not be "split type", many thanks

          Cheers

oops - thanks Graham - didn't know grease rots rubber, will persever with the fairly liquid and see what happens

was thinking of using vaseline at one point, but that opens up a whole new scenario that we shouldn't go to

Just on a serious final note IMO you are much better off poly (plastic) bushes as they are unaffected by oil (unless you have a completely oil tight engine) I have to do my, track control, steering rack, and roll bar, (as they have perished through oil) for the next ITV (MOT) test, I'll be using the blue ones (bit softer as I understand) Cheer's Graham

I've found that Swarfega works well and is less messy.

                        Cheers

Thanks for all your advise chaps - success - noticed that PO had painted roll bar and paint had peeled off in parts causing max friction - so spent 1/2 hour power sanding the whole lot and bingo (with the help of the fairly liquid) the little b*****s just slipped on . Good point about the oil on rubber Graham - think I'll see what MOT brings up and then do the superflex thing.
Thanks all again, now back to the other jobs .......

                          Cheers
