Another little mod

Whilst i have the Gearbox out (Yet again) i thought i would tidy up the OD loom with some proper breathable loom tape which i got for the EFI project rather than the nasty electrical tape that is very brittle, now i have removed the link wire Triumph put in there due to not having a inhibitor switch as its a manual.soldered the 2 wires together before they get to the plug so now 2 more bad connection points done away with.

Also found my gearbox leak which was a miss aligned od filter all bent up and preventing the sump plate from seating properly,also a double bodged up home made gasket Why? (Previous,previous owner)

The gearbox I did last week had a leak from the overdrive sump cover - it was nicely warped, so their answer was to tighten it more and wreck the gasket too... took a fair while with a sheet of wet and dry on an old mirror to get it flat again.

There was also a fair old leak from the overdrive adaptor housing where it was warped at the bottom - as the gaskets are so thin, there isn't much chance of the gasket taking up the gap... more rubbing on the mirror

Had to flatten mine off the same as you with abrasive paper on glass ,bent due to the mangled filter,god knows how the od picked up any oil but it worked well.
