Suggestions please.

Tried starting today and dead!

Fuel pump clicking away until stopped (full), check.

Immobilizer light out, check.

Ignition light on, check.

Test main beam ok, check.

Ignition light not dimming when turning key.

No click at all from starter motor.

Has the same symptoms as if the immobilizer was activated.

Any help gratefully received as usual.

Thanks Ian, didn't give that a thought even though my other 2 cars are autos, doh.

It was in reverse where I had been moving (pushing) it in the garage.

Forum members come up trumps again.

You're welcome Jeff, I too have 3 auto's, guess how I knew this could be the issue

My modern auto won't let you take the key out unless it's in park.. or let the shifter move unless your hoof is on the brake - there are times when that is very irritating

At least it proves the Inhibitor switch is working - I once left the car in Drive one night and next morning forgot and turned the key and the car shot forward and ran straight into a parked BMW and an Astra - my Inhibitor switch had failed with costly consequences.

Some modern manuals have inhibitors too. Won't start without foot on clutch. I thought they were a nusiance until recently we were working on a recalcitrant Afla that wouldn't start. We were pushing it back and forth in gear to set the timing. When we tried to start it..still in gear as it happened.. it crushed two of us into the wall. I had the inprint of a Healey chassis (that was leaning against the wall) on my thigh for a week or so. While being crushed into the wall I couldn't figure out why the car was still coming at us! The funny thing was We'd obviously done a good job as the car had actually started in gear.
