I've got the Weber from Chris (VMad). Not set up on a dyno yet as I'm still running in but it definitely does not lack low end torgue. I'm quite surprised how well it pulls off the line with virtually no throttle in 1st or 2nd. I assume it would lose out at high revs to the much bigger Holley.

The Stagweber sounds like a good choise for me then...I will buy some tubular manifolds to compliment it, I would like to know which manufacturer supplies an exhaust with a good growl...

IIRC the Strombergs when in full flow will flow around 388CFM, near enough the same as the Holley. Of course it is never that easy though (Strombergs are variable yet carbs after all, different to fixed yets ).

I have never actually read what the Strombergs will flow before, and if that figure is correct it would explain why the engine that is in the estate made the same power on Strombergs, Holley and injection when the injection was based on a Stag manifold.

The manifold appears to be the limiting factor, the current Stromberg set up is on a totally original manifold whereas the Holley and injection were on an opened up manifold (still with the centre divider), nothing seemed to make much difference.

The biggest factor seems to be the ease with which the carbs can be jetted, if the mixture isn't right no carb will perform well. I was lucky with the Stromberg set up in that my home made exhaust and Stag tubular manifold set up suited the factory jetting perfectly. If it hadn't then the only other choice would have been Tony Harts set up, whereas there are a huge variety of jets available for the Holley and Weber carbs.
