Scimmed Heads.

The two cyl. Heads I have are machined to differing thickness's, can anyone enlighten me as to who may manufacture bespoke quality gaskets and what should they be made from for longevity ??

Hi Andrew,

ideally they should both be machined to the same thickness but you can buy stainless steel Savashims from Gosnays in Romford in different thicknesses to make up the difference which also means you can use standard gaskets.

Thank you for the reply and link, we will endeavour to measure as the text suggests, then I wil seek to buy copper gaskets of the required thickness, so only one piece is between head and block leaving less chance of leaks...

Depending on the differences, it is also possible to use one standard thickness gasket on the least skimmed side , and an extra thick on the most skimmed. I have sucsessfully done this in the past.

I seem to remember Drew showed the figures somewhere in his 'bavarian Stag' post. However I'm not completely sure about that.

Anybody know if the oem gaskets are available in standard thickness (cyl. Hd) and who sells them...I need one std and one plus 20 thou. I thought copper gaskets would be better, but at about 350 quid a pair, I'll try regular ones...
