Thanks... the guy is a Stag owner from Kent. He has a Stag which has been in his garage for a "few years" and he just rung me as my number is in the Stag Mag cos he is trying to get it going again! He has a "disconnect" battery terminal from what I can make out and he didnt know which terminal to put it on?!? the positive terminal was my first response but then he didnt know which side that was?!?!?!?! Then I thought maybe the disconnect is on the negative terminal....... it could get messy in Kent!!!!

I hope he gets it right! He thinks the terminal next to the radiator has a lead which earths to the body work by the wheel arch........ He has no computer so cant connect to this very helpful forum!

                Guys
I remember a discussion about this a while back. Shouldn't the positive be on the outside to avoid any problems of the lead touching the power steering pulley and belt? Someone had a short and a fire!
That's how mine is on LD364 but LD396 is the other way round I have to admit.

The standard Stag set up is to have the negative next the wing with the terminals on the edge nearest the engine as has been said. With this setup there isn't much room for a Discarnect on the positive terminal. In which case it can be fitted to the negative terminal as many have done.

However, as has been said, there is a good argument for fitting the same type of battery with the terminals reversed. This moves the positive terminal and lead away from its close proximity to the power steering pulley and allows more room for the Discarnect to be fitted to the positive terminal.

What the guy in Kent has can only be determined by close examination of the battery he has fitted. The terminals should be identified by either a coloured band at the base of the terminals, or by a '+' or '-' moulded into the casing.

                      Hi,

Have you got any contact details for Tudor or whoever supplied. Battery manufacturers will often list the polarity of the post and location i.e. Model ABC123 (positve to the left) and then ABC123R (positive to the right). This is to ensure correct location of battery or that the leads connect with enough flex in them.

Mine has -ve terminal closest to radiator, and that is where the "discarnect" device is fixed, too.

This is a Halfords battery which had the terminals reverse to the Samson it replaced. The Halfords was replaced recently by a Bosch which has the same positioning as the Halfords.

The discarnect will only fit on the negative as it is a different size to the positive.
