smell of fuel

Hi Again,

i am getting a smell of fuel form the stag ... there is no leaks just wondering f she is running to rich as even on start up from cold the fumes burn your eyes

Are you certain there are no leaks in the boot? There is a redundant connection to the tank which should be blanked off with a rubber plug. These are usually perished and leak. Replace with a short piece of fuel pipe plugged with a bolt.

Yeah I had a smell of petrol that turned out to be a tiny weep from the seam of the tank. Worth checking over the tank very carefully.

That's worth checking on mine as the smell of fuel in the boot is next on my list, when I stop pulling the engine to bits.

I also get fuel smell but only when car been stood for a while from the boot.
Have checked for leaks but nothing found so have ordered yesterday new petrol cap seal and washer thinking that fumes may be getting passed there as seal looks very worn ?

Yeah i get that as well ...... will be worth getting one

There is very little to seal the fumes from the tank area from wafting in to the passenger area.
Any leak however small will just drift that way..
If you ever carry a can of fuel in the boot the same thing applys..
