    I Must be Mad

LD 152 rolled onto my drive today. Since I got involved in Stags I have wanted a very early car. I wasn't really looking but this car came up and although I might have preferred a more sorted model, having 2 already (soon to be 1 - anyone need a rolling shell needing sills?) meant funds would only allow a project.

A bit unloved, it has been off the road since 06. It comes with matching original engine and gearbox numbers. It needs new floors and some other minor repairs to the bodywork but the sills and the A posts are solid although there is a bit of work to the front of the outer sill on the offside. It will obviously need some mechanical fettling having been off the road for so long although it did drive to and from its recent MOT which it failed (some would say a top coat of paint as well).

Its a MOD car with a red interior and hardtop (as you can see) which is scruffy but appears solid. The original engine was taken out some time ago but luckily the PO kept it and the gearbox. It has a 2.5 engine in it at the moment. I'll post some more pictures over the weekend.

I'm not mad really although Mrs Goldstar thinks I am

That's it now, no more until 2 of these are on the road

Thats what I said, and look where that got me...

Looks like an interesting project Paul,I really like the white Mk1 with a red interior..and I actually prefer them with the wheel trims (and thats not because I have some)

Thanks Sam. I found the wheel trims in the car when it rolled up. PO hadn't mentioned them but had popped them in anyway. Nice guy.

Nice one Paul, I am rather envious of you in a way, namely the space to keep them and work on them. I have the time, skills, ability, tooling and resources to do this but no garage or storage at home. I rent a Garage to house mine but that's over a mile away.

Maybe it's a good thing though as I have a very happy marriage of 34 years, whereas if I had said garage I would be living in it playing with my toy's at the expense of other things. shame we don't live nearer each other.

Hi Ian, I love a challenge and SWMBO doesn't seem to mind me taking time to tinker with the cars. In fact she has told me one of them has to be ready for next spring so we can have family outings in it. No pressure then. It might be the start of th eend for my Saturdays playing cricket though.

You will always be welcome at Smith Towers if you fancy a day trip to Henley then you can tell me how mad I really am.....

Nothing mad there, at least not for a stag owner. I have a particular liking for Mk1 cars, and would have another project on the go if space and time permitted.

BTW I also have a liking for Henley as I rowed there many times, including at the Royal Regatta.

Not far to row from Walton either

Glutton and punishment are 2 words that spring to mind

Admire your enthusiasm though, well done! (And I'm not being patronising in case someone jumps on me).

You're not wrong Jeff. Probably time to get a gang together for another beer call to celebrate my lunacy.

Are you around tomorrow, could pop round and see your car in the afternoon maybe?

Bad timing again, up the smoke to see Lee Evans in 'Barking from Essex'.

Any day next week or weekend?
