At long last I've got round to putting a few of my BRG/Brooklands thoughts down !
I have become a bit of an anorak about colours - well BRG/Brooklands in particular. This is because I've always wanted to find out exactly what the colour of my car is, however I don't think I'm ever going to know for sure. However, any of you out there with either BRG or Brooklands cars could help me if you would by letting me know your chassis number, colour code on the car and date of production. If you have any other information or pictures they would be gratefully received.
The colour code for BRG was 75 and for Brooklands was HAE however many sources don’t show one, or other, or either of these.
BRG was still listed in Triumph's March 76 colour chart but another chart, later in 76 (but with no month shown), lists Brooklands instead of BRG. The first car built in 76 was LD40809. On 4th August, LD42366 was produced* The first car in 1977 was LD43908.
*This number is definite as it was the first car produced on the 2000/2500 line after it had been moved from the TR6 line with the deletion of that model.
My car is only a few hundred before the first car in 77, which ties in with its production date of December 76. However, despite Brooklands apparently coming in sometime earlier in the year, my car has the '75' colour code of BRG.
I have been in touch with several BRG/Brooklands owners and there are other cars out there also produced late in 76 or early 77 that look like the same colour as mine and yet I think some have colour code HAE.
I know that chassis LD4427x, built in Feb 77, is referred to as BRG on the Heritage certificate !! Yet chassis LD4476x has a paint code of HAE yet looks exactly the same as mine
My suspicions are that some cars were produced in Brooklands, yet still had the BRG 75 paint code.
I know mine has been resprayed but my whole mystery stems from the fact that there appears to be a more 'Brooklands like' green UNDER some of the more 'BRG like' topcoat. I just have a sneaky feeling that it was originally Brooklands but, in the not untypical way that things were happening at BL back then (I worked for BL for 10 years in the 70s) I think they may well have put the incorrect colour code on the car.
Here is a link to video of very last Stag ever made (LD 45722). This IS Brooklands green, although I understand it was resprayed and I’ve heard it said, not especially well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4iA8XUMUVE
Things are made even more complicated by the fact that the colour looks distinctly different in different pictures
Cheers
Julian
