Any bright sparks out there?

My first post and undoubtedly wont be the last. So hope it makes sense.
Last month I acquired the money pit, sorry mean the Stag and have found a multi-coloured plate of spaghetti behind the dashboard which would appear to have evolved over the last 40 years into something rather reminiscent of an early computers innards.
My concern in this correctly PC world is that aforementioned Stag appears to have started smoking around the fuse box and possibly else where, which I am sure is not good for anyone's health.
Being based near Oxford I was wondering if anyone could recommend an electrician and just how difficult is it to replace the wiring if doing it ones self if it comes to that.

Welcome to the forum.
Smoking is a short step away from fire, not good news!! I would suggest you contact Peter of LD parts 01869 249862. Peter is not an electrician but an expert on Stags and extremely helpful and may be able to suggest a good sparky.
Replacing the wiring yourself, difficult to say without knowing your capabilities and experience. Whoever played with your wiring thought he was an expert.

The main loom under the dash goes right to a set of connectors near the headlights so it's not simple to replace it and the main loom may not be the source of the problem There's plenty of opportunity for bad connections under there. A thorough inspection is important. A blade fusebox conversion is a good idea as the old fuse box is riveted together and bad/loose rivets = heat...then smoke...fire.
