Would it be a classic now?

Think of the cars we have all owned over the years. What would have become a classic, and what was your favourite?
Mine was a Mk 1 Golf GTI, one of the last the campaign model.
Had a few Marinas as well, and the piano is clearly the best thing for them!

Early Subaru Imprezza Turbo. I think its already well on its way to becoming a future classic. I had one from new and sold it 8 years ago, wish I had kept it now. Its a shame its become a boy racers dream car and is often seen with dustbin sized tail pipes, but the Stag went through tough times before it's renaissance and I think the Imprezza will too.

Hi. I had a very early Mk 1 GTI (1.6 single headlamp) that had been in the family since it was 2 years old. I always regret selling that car. My Mk1 Escort van has probably long disappeared and been consumed by Mother Nature. What about my old SD1 Rovers? Not everyone's cup-of-tea, but I loved them!

Had well over 40 cars so far, but regards moderns I would have to say the 3L Pug 406 pininfarina I had about 10 years ago.

Had one of these in the 60's and loved it (a true Coupe) but don't know if there are any still around.
Mine was a 1600cc Mk3A model coloured as in the photograph, and it certainly pulled the girls.

Yes, my thought was the 406 coupe, too (although I had the 2L). I'd probably have kept it if it wasn't written off in an accident 7 years ago.

I think for me it would have to be a Dolomite Sprint which was in white, the colour used by the Police. Had great fun zipping about - as you could do in the early eighties, keeping a watchful eye out for hidden Police cars, and the best bit was when you came screaming up behind someone, as they always seemed to believe that It was a Police car and quickly moved out of the way. So many speed cameras in Nottingham now and no chance to have anything like the same fun with the Stag.

Mark 1 MR2 for me had one (C plated) after I got fed up with hot hatches, great motor and it looked like a little Ferrari. Still tempted to get my paws on one now was looking at them for sale the other day, spend every Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and the CCW looking through the for sales. Still some nice examples around.
The other motor I had a few years before that was a mark 1 Astra GTE Areg with the full Irmscher kit (think that's spelt right) dug out some photos the other day of cars I've had and found some of that which brought back some fond memories. It had an incredibly high fith gear great for economy and cruising.
Imo they are both worthy of saving/collecting and probably wouldn't be too complicated for the home mechanic. The problem with later cars is the need to be plugged into the diagnostics for everything. My XJ had some issues with the throttle body which I have sorted myself but it now needs setting up by someone who can set the throttle pot adaptation. Other than that I had done all the spanner work myself.
                    Cheers glyn

I had one of these Terry, also had a Wolseley 1500, Austin A40, Hunters, Minis, SD1's Escorts, Cortina's Etc,Etc all classics now but I think the point of the post is more so what will be a classic in the future.

Couldn't agree more! I loved mine so much that I ordered its successor "blind" from the local dealer! Unfortunately I don't ever see them being hailed as a classic. Spare parts were horrendously difficult to get hold of even when new.

I don't have a pic of mine I just lifted one from the net.
After crashing the Astra several times I repaired it and replaced it with an older Manta B, I would've done better with a Manta GTE in the first place.
Another car that I always wanted back in the day but was just out of reach was the Monza.

Drew, I wanted both of those, didn't get either, probably why I bought a Focus ST!

Just when I finished college I could have bought my mates MK1 RS 2000 for £2K, regret not buying it
