    Garage heaters

Good morning all, following on from a recent thread about dehumidifiers I was wondering if and how it would be possible to keep the Stag warm whilst it winters in the garage. I have a double garage so heating the space would probably be cost prohibitive, but I am sure in the past I have heard of heaters that are placed beneath the car just to keep it's temperature raised enough to keep it happy.
what experience do you guys have?

    Thanks in advance

I have heard of people using greenhouse heaters to do this, just linked to a frost thermostat to keep the temp up and Npowers profits down

Yes I have just been on a few web sites and they seem quite common and cheap, even with a thermostat!
      Perhaps that is the answer.

      Thanks

I remember my Dad using a little greenhouse paraffin heater under the sump of his Consul in the 50's/60's

Hi all, just one thing to remember, both paraffin and gas give out moisture as they burn.
            cheers Drew

This is true but I have used my gas heater in the winter and it heats up the workshop in seconds. If I pluged in a electric heater it would take forever and as spoon as someone walks in the door it's gone. I think the moisture content is so small it's nothing to worry about. Edd

You can buy magnetic electric heaters that attach to the sump. They are used about a couple of hours before starting the engine, but it may be too small for the Stag. I have a Zerostart one - just in case. Don't forget to remove it before driving away...........

                  Ha,..ha...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha h I'm afraid not.
Try looking underneath your Stag on any of these days we are having. The BOTTOM of the floor underneath will have hundreds of drops of condensation on it, and that's without encouraging it with added moisture in the atmosphere.

If you want your car to stay moisture free keep it in a Carcoon, loads of prior threads on it here, about £240 for a large size 3 off e bay used. It has twin computer rated fans using milliamperes ( I reckon no more than £20 ish electric for the winter)pulling the air through carbon filters and controlling the DEWPOINT inside the Carcoon, which is what stops the condensation. It even works inside a damp garage, mine is going back inside on 1st Nov and coming out end of March, and will emerge with no rust or even discolouration on the brake discs.

As regards the garage I've given up trying to heat it economically, I use Infra red heaters for localised heating of organic matter (me) and have thermall overalls at £20 quid from Lidl.

                  Micky.
